Our 1st Anniversary

I cannot believe it's been a year already. It was just yesterday Jon purposed and now we're already celebrating a year! A lot happened this year, things that were sad, happy, trying- but nonetheless all things that built our first year of marriage to be such a good one! I'll spare you the boring list of "things."

How'd we celebrate our anniversary? I thought you'd never ask! Let me tell you!

Jon's not very good at keeping gifts from me and by not very good I mean awful. So Sunday when we got home from church Jon was like "can I give you my gift now?" I said sure but he wasn't getting his until tomorrow. Anyways, I had been hinting at getting a new printer, one that not only prints paper but prints good quality pictures as well! My reasoning was so that I'd keep up with project life! Well, he must take hints really well because that's what he got me!

We went out to his parents on Sunday, and thanks to pinterest, I found a new tradition that I wanted to start. Every anniversary, take a picture holding the picture from last anniversary! So we did just that! We had  his sister snap a couple of pictures. I thought they turned out cute!

Thanks to leap year, our anniversary fell on a Monday- blah- and unfortunately, I had to work all day so we didn't get much time to celebrate! I found a super cute idea on The dating divas website for a quick cheesy way to show Jonboy how special he is to me. I only took a picture of the first card- but this project was super easy. I just printed the sayings off on heavy card stock! He leaves super early for work, so Sunday night I put Recce's Pieces in his truck and the card said "you stole a piece of my heart"- I told you, cheesy! I had 5 different sayings that I hid all over the house that he kept finding all day/afternoon. :)

After work we headed to Bonefish Grill for some dinner and great conversation!  It was delicious!

and had to capture the beautiful sunset on the way home

I tried to stick with the traditional wedding gift of "paper" and got Jon a massage- the gift card counted as the paper. Jon did well too by the printer {close enough, right?}. He's also been hinting at the KU Evolution banner. So he got that and a new KU shirt!

After the wedding mom went to go look for the cake top- no where to be found! Oh well. Who wants to eat year old cake anyways? One of the ladies who works for the Fire Department spoils the boys with wonderful cakes, pies, etc. I knew he LOVED her carrot cake! I asked her to make one for him! Well I wanted it to be a surprise so I had one of my good friends, Renee come over while we were at dinner and set the cake and champagne out on the table for us. I was even surprised when we walked in! Look what she did! :)

Flowers and rose pedals with plates and all. As Jon would say, "She's a pretty sweet girl" {thanks Renee'!}Jon was so took back, I think for once, I finally made him speechless and not me!!
{Side note: for those of you who are thinking "Lauren doesn't eat sweets"-- well, since tonight was a special night, I had a very small piece with Jon and let me tell you- my stomach didn't agree that it tasted good. Not eating sweets since Feb made eating this awesome cake hard. I can also say, I don't miss them!}

Of course, we had to have a little toast. I started by saying "Cheers to" and paused slightly and Jon says "to the freakin' weekend".... he was really showing his romantic side!!

You can kind of see my hair piece in this photo- it's the same one I wore with my dress. I'm going to attempt to wear it every year! {Thanks, Mindy for the idea via your shoes!}

Cheers to one year of marriage and many many more!
