I'm obsessed with Zoo's. I'm not sure what it is about them, but they're so fun to me. Ever since Jon and I started dating, I've bugged him to take me to the Omaha Zoo! This past weekend, that's just what we did!
We packed up our things and headed out Friday morning, we got there around lunch time and enjoyed a quick bite to eat at the Twisted Fork. It was a delicious little bar and grill. From there we spent hours walking around and exploring the Durham Museum. The museum used to be the old Omaha Union Station. We spent a good couple hours exploring the history of Omaha- we had a blast doing so. Laughing, taking goofy pictures, and just enjoying time just the two of us!
Friday night we ate dinner at the Upstream Brewery. What a fun atmosphere it is! We ate dinner then just sat back, had some drinks, and again, laughed and enjoyed just the two of us. Jon tried a number of their house beers {luckily, they come in just little 2oz testers!} and his favorite ended up being Firehouse Red --shocking. After dinner we walked back to our hotel and stopped at a local ice cream shop! They still made their ice cream from the old machines. Which, from Jon's reaction to it, is probably why it taste so good! {I still have not ate sweets since February! yay me!}
Saturday we got up pretty early. Well, early for vacation time- so much for sleeping in! We headed to breakfast at Wheatfields which is on their top 100 Omaha attraction list. It was quite delicious! After breakfast we headed right to the Zoo. We spent all day there. Walked probably a 100 miles. Saw every 4 legged creature, 2 legged creature, creatures w/ no legs, things that swam, flew, and crawled. I couldn't get over the amount of creatures they had at this Zoo. It's super cool how they have it all set up. I would HIGHLY recommend making a trip up there! It's a short 3 hour drive from KC and totally worth it!
After the Zoo, we headed back to take naps. We were pooped. For dinner, we ate at Roja Mexican Grill where we saw not 1 but 8, yes 8 bachelorette parties.. prime people watching it was nice and LOUD to say the least. While we were there we found out that the brewery that we visited was actually an old firehouse. It was built in 1903 and, ironically, caught on fire in 1904.After we found that out, Jon wanted to go study the building, so we found ourselves posted up at the bar. Just to our luck, it started storming. I was not about to walk back to our hotel in the pouring down rain, so we became friends w/ the bartender and waited it out {about 4 hours! ha!). We had a BLAST though. We laughed until we had tears falling from our eyes. It was memorable. It was fun. It was just good ole' plain FUN to spend a whole weekend, just the two of us, to enjoy each others companies. I can see why people stress this when they have kids! It was much needed without kids!

Have a great week!
